DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT COURSE INFORMATION\n\n			This course covers Asphalt Field & Compaction Technician Certification.\n\n			Radiation Safety & Nuclear Gauge Operation Training will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday\, October 13. This training is required to operate a nuclear testing gauge.\n			\n		\n	\n\n\nThe Contractors Association of West Virginia (CAWV) is pleased to offer its annual Asphalt Field & Compaction Technician Certification Training to help individuals prepare for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) certification examinations required under the agency's Quality Assurance Program.\n\nA certified Asphalt Field Technician is required on all paving projects. This course is also required for individuals who perform Asphalt Compaction testing.\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			Important Certification Update\n\n			All new Asphalt Field & Compaction Technician certification applicants must complete a minimum of 40 hours of documented hands-on training under the supervision of a WVDOH-certified Asphalt Field & Compaction Technician.\n\n			Required Hands-On Training\n\n			\n				AASHTO T 355   Standard Method of Test for In-Place Density of Asphalt Mixtures by Nuclear Methods\n				Specification 401   Gauge Comparison\n			\n\n			After Training\n\n			After the participant completes the required training\, the supervising WVDOH-certified Asphalt Field & Compaction Technician must complete the Hands-On Training Log Sheet and include their printed name\, signature\, certification number and date of completion. The completed log sheet must then be submitted electronically to the WVDOH Quality Assurance Program Administrator.\n\n			The participant will be contacted by the WVDOH Materials Control\, Soils & Testing (MCS&T) Pavement Analysis and Evaluation Section to schedule the practical examination. The practical examination may be attempted before completion of the apprenticeship cycle.\n\n			The practical examination must be completed within 90 days of the original written examination date.\n\n			Radiation Safety Requirement\n\n			A technician who does not demonstrate proper radiation safety will not be permitted to continue testing on a WVDOH project and must be replaced by another qualified technician. Before another evaluation may be conducted\, the technician must provide proof of additional WVDOH-approved radiation safety training.\n			\n		\n	\n\n\nCourse Schedule\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			Tuesday\, October 13\n\n			12:30 p.m.   Registration and Radiation Safety and Nuclear Gauge Operation Training\n\n			Wednesday\, October 14\n\n			7:30 8:00 a.m.   Registration for Asphalt Field Technician Training\n\n			Friday\, October 16\n\n			The course concludes upon completion of the written examination and practical examination.\n			\n		\n	\n\n\nCourse instructors include representatives from the West Virginia Division of Highways\, West Virginia University\, the Asphalt Institute and the construction industry.\n\nTesting\n\nThe written certification examination and practical examination will be administered on the final day of the course.\n\nLaptop/Device Requirement\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			\n				A laptop\, iPad or similar tablet device is required for testing. Smartphones are not permitted.\n				Google Chrome is recommended for the best compatibility with the WVDOH online testing platform.\n				Participants must have access to the 2023 WVDOH Standard Specifications during the course and testing. A printed copy may be used\, or the specifications may be downloaded to the device you will use for testing before arriving for class.
