Asphalt Field Technician Course
A certified Asphalt Field Technician is now required on all paving projects. This course is also required to test Asphalt Compaction.
* All certification testing has been moved to an online format that will require the attendee to have a laptop, tablet or iPad type device to take the test. The use of smart phones during the test is prohibited.
***GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER IS RECOMMENDED, AS IT IS BEST COMPATIBLE WITH WVDOH TESTING SITE.

The course will begin with registration at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for the Radiation Safety and Nuclear Gauge Operation (this is required to operate the nuclear testing gauge) then at 7:30-8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, for Asphalt Field Technician of the course. The course will end upon completion of the test and practical exam on Friday, October 16, 2026. Course instructors consist of WV Division of Highways, WVU, Asphalt Institute and Industry representatives.
Location
WVDOH Materials Division, 190 Dry Branch Drive, Charleston
Attendees are responsible for making all reservations for lodging. Lodging can be obtained at any Charleston area hotel, but the Country Inn & Suites (304) 925-4300 in Kanawha City is the closest to WVDOH Materials. Please make reservations as soon as possible.
Fees/Admission
CAWV members $345 per person / non-members $445 per person. Fees cover the costs of instruction, materials, breaks, breakfast, and lunch. Fees do not include cost for lodging. A three-day cancellation notice is required for a full refund if unable to attend course after registering.
