Description
The CAWV State Meeting will recognize members for excellence in their safety programs, quality concrete awards will be presented, and the CAWV Scholarship Foundation recipient will accept his or her CAWV scholarship check. Nearly 200 CAWV members and guests, along with state and federal contracting officials, attended the meeting last year, which is held during EXPO.
The keynote speaker at this year’s CAWV State Meeting is Major General James Hoyer, adjutant general for the West Virginia National Guard. General Hoyer has been at the forefront in rebuilding West Virginia after the devastating floods of 2016. The CAWV has worked with the general and his staff on road, demolition and single and multi-family housing contracts to help rebuild portions of the state. Gov. Jim Justice has tapped General Hoyer to spearhead “Jim’s Dream,” the governor’s plan to invest in workforce training and to fight drug addiction. Members of the CAWV Workforce Development Task Force are currently working with the general and his staff on expanding construction-related curriculum at the guard’s facilities at Camp Dawson in Kingwood and at the former Hobet mine site in Boone County. General Hoyer will share with CAWV his actions goals to rebuild West Virginia to create a skilled and qualified workforce for the construction industry.
